About the Congress

The 2022 Biennial Congress of the International Association of Empirical Aesthetics is planned for Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States on August 31 - September 2.

The Penn Center for Neuroaesthetics welcomes you to our campus and city for lively discussions of our shared research and thinking.

The theme of IAEA Philly 2022 is "Connecting Community."

We aim to connect

  1. Our small research community again after a prolonged dispersal

  2. Disciplines that are traditionally kept siloed

  3. To our communities outside the academy

IAEA is home to researchers who use empirical methods to investigate aesthetic experiences, as well as the creation and perception of art across many domains including music, literature, film, theatre, dance, and visual art, among others. Our members from over 20 countries include individuals with backgrounds in psychology, neuroscience, sociology, museology, art history, philosophy, musicology, and other areas of research and practice.

Take this opportunity to visit our city. Philadelphia is one of the oldest and the sixth most populous city in the US. Rich in tradition and diversity, Philly is known for its public and institutional art offerings. From murals and mosaics to the collections of the Barnes Foundation and the Philadelphia Museum of Art, you will find ample aesthetic experiences to engage your mind.
